A
former clothing designer, Brian Tacang recently altered the course of
his life, embarking on the writer’s journey.
Although he has written prose
and poetry in secret for many years – never intending his work be read by
anyone – he has arrived at the conclusion there is nothing else
he’d rather do (except, perhaps eat himself silly or learn to do a triple-lutz,
triple toe-loop combination).
The latter is never going to happen as the years
and pounds – the result of trying to eat himself silly – collude to drag
him earthward. Thankfully, years of metaphysical study have taught him both
the awesome potential of limitlessness and the inevitability of limitation.
Brian loves writing poetry because of its inherent demand that language
be used in inventive, rhythmic ways to open one’s eyes to what is
already present. He loves writing fiction because he is endlessly fascinated
with the human condition, which he tries to capture with his humorous, sometimes
dark, sometimes poignant perspective.
His work was recently published in Filipinas Magazine, and he has
several submissions floating around in the black holes of publisher’s desks.
He spends some of his time doing freelance design, but mostly he writes and
runs to check the mail – searching for the elusive SASE. He lives in the
hills of Oakland, California.
