Poet’s Heart

He says, “I can show you love and romance
like you’ve never known before.”
He says, “I can make you happier than he,”
As his gaze falls on my breast.

And I can feel his hands on me,
Like he’s trying me out with his imagination.
I feel so dirty, seeing that nasty smile on his face
As he looks me up and down.

So I say, “Lust is not love and sex is not romance.”
I say, “You all want my body . . .
What more can you give me?”
What makes you stand out,
When I can feel your eyes
Slide over my body, like waves upon the shore?

Can we change this channel?
I’ve seen this one before.
And you want to get to know me.
You all want to get to know ME.
You know . . . I know you already
Even though we’ve only just met,
And I’ve left you before, many times.
What should make this time any different?
