I’ll give you chivalry
this concept dying
in an undeserving world
as I hobbled on my good leg
the other completely useless
down the flight of stairs
no one offered a hand
and the ocean of shoes before me
threatened to do more damage
than the original wound
he found my shoes in that mess
and put them on my feet
He didn’t kill a dragon
or protect me from a bully
nor did he pick up the tab
because I think
chivalry’s definition is changing
so we should quit looking to our men
for dangerous acts of heroism
and knighthood and machoism
and appreciate them for
the little and thoughtful
things they do for us
that save us just the same
