Chiliad

A chiliad, a myriad, a thousand either way,
A thousand shots to fire and a thousand souls to slay
Nobody feels, nobody heals, nobody kneels to pray
It’s a lonely sun that rears his head,
And begins another day.

* * *

A thousand faces in the water
A thousand guns that do not care
A thousand shadows in the twilight
A thousand whispers in the air.

A thousand voices beseech for aid
A thousand heads that hang in shame
A thousand stars grow dim forever
A thousand hearts fall ill with blame.

A thousand tears that fall in silence
A thousand lakes are filled that night
A thousand bodies along the roadside
A thousand faces, masks of fright.

A single sun fades into darkness
A single soul mourns what is past
A single prayer pleads for forgiveness
A single tear from grief, aghast.

A single tear, from grief aghast
Upon my cheek of ice is cast
A single tear, of diamond fair
A single tear, of grief I share.

* * *

A chiliad, a myriad, a thousand either way,
A thousand tears unspoken and a thousand words to say.
A broken heart, a soul apart, is but one voice anyway
A shadow amongst broken dreams
I’ll speak no more today.
